Let’s Talk About: Bias & Bias Wreckers

If you’re new to K-Pop (or Korean Pop Music) you will have no idea what I mean by Bias & Bias Wreckers.

Your Bias is your particular favourite within a K-Pop group, and your Bias Wrecker is that one (or more) other member to threatens to push your Bias off the top of the list.

Urban Dictionary says:

I have many biases, one for each of the groups I like, and I have even more Bias Wreckers (because they pretty much change depending on what cute, or adorable things they do, or what music videos I watch). I also have an Ultimate Bias, and an Ultimate Bias Wrecker (who threatens my Ultimate Bias on a daily basis).

I have a few favourite K-Pop groups, and slowly adding more to the list. So over the next couple of months I will post about each of my favourite K-Pop groups, including my Bias & Bias Wrecker.

Do you have any Biases? Who are they? Who’s your Ultimate Bias!? Let me know in the comments!

My Skin Before

My Skin Before (and current Skincare Routine)

My skin before I started my Korean skincare routine was horrible! Oily forehead and nose, dry cheeks that would itch, and I would scratch them, leaving my skin red and peeling. Hormonal pimples on my chin, neck and nose. Black heads on my nose. Dark circles under my eyes, and red cheeks and nose (caused by Rosacea (thanks mum)). Appearance of small wrinkles around eyes, and on forehead. Saggy neck skin (due to severe weight loss).

I hardly ever wore makeup, and when I did I would end up breaking out, with pimples, and my skin would not be happy. This may partly be because I never removed my makeup probably at the end of the day.

I never used cleanser, toner, or moisturiser. There was a period where I used witch hazel, and that was it! I just coated a cotton pad in witch hazel and wiped my face. No follow up moisturiser, no cleanser or even face washing!

For Christmas my step mother got me a bottle of Nutrimetics Botanicals Foam Fresh Cleanser Toner and I put it in the shower and I actually started using it, to a point that if I forgot, I would go into the bathroom and use it. It created a light foam and was gentle on my skin, and it smelt like passionfruit (which is always a good thing) After 2 weeks I started to notice a difference.

In March/April 2017, I was in a local play. I had to wear heavy stage makeup 3 times a week, that and the bright stage lights, uncomfortable costumes, and sweaty sweaty evenings let to my skin losing the plot. One of my cheeks cracked and bled, my nose had more oil than a middle eastern oil field, and my forehead was so shiny that you could probably see it from the moon. And lets not talk about the pimples! GROSS! I had to do something.

While searching for books to help me learn how to speak Korean, I came across a book called The Little Book of Skin Care by Charlotte Cho. I downloaded the sample ebook and loved it so much I ordered a hard copy that very day. I had to wait a month for it to arrive, but during that month I started my only research and came across the 10 Step Korean Skincare Routine. 10 STEPS! That’s a bit much? But I was intrigued so I kept digging and researching.

I already had a few random Korean skincare and cosmetics in my collection. Elizavecca Carbonated Clay Mask (after seeing a Buzzfeed video about it) and TonyMoly sheet masks, Pocket Bunny Sleek Mist, and lip gloss, from my trip to Morning Glory in Perth for my little sisters birthday (we were there for the K-Pop merch!)

My research led me to CYHouse, an online Australian Korean Cosmetics store. Thats where I made my first purchase. Purchasing Heimish All Clean Balm, Son & Park Beauty Water, and a TonyMoly lip tint. I read reviews of every product before I purchased. When they arrived I posted a photo on my personal Instagram and thats how I found the second online Korean Skincare & Cosmetics store, Lilac & Berries. Where I made my second purchase. All up, so far, I have made 5 purchases across the 2 stores. (Some of the purchases haven’t even arrived yet)

My skin is slowly getting healthier. I’ve had my mum, and someone from work comment on how nice it’s looking. It’s smooth, and I haven’t had any pimples in months (even hormonal ones), my skin is still red, and my nose is still oily (I blame my glasses) but my cheeks and forehead are healthy. So I’m super excited.

My Current Favourites

I started my Korean skincare routine about a month ago, when I received my first large Korean skincare haul from CYHouse. That haul included Heimish All Clean Balm, and Son & Park Beauty Water. Until then I had been using only Nutrimetics Botanicals Foam Fresh Cleanser Toner. So I added the oil cleanser (All Clean Balm) and Toner (Beauty Water) to my routine. I was in love after the first night. The Heimish All Clean Balm was amazing! I was a little weary about covering my face with oil, but after the first rinse… I knew I found a winner. I followed up my “double cleanse” with the Nutrimetics product, then used the Beauty Water (I bought the 60ml bottle to try, and have since ordered the large bottle). The Beauty Water has a light fresh scent, and is so light and feels amazing. Nothing like the Witch Hazel I had been using every now and then (when I remembered) that dried out my skin, and made it itchy and red.

A couple of days ago I added 2 more steps to my routine, when my parcel from Lilac & Berries arrived. Inside was 2 amazing products (and HEAPS of free samples).  Wonder Essence by Simplistic, and Fresh Herb Origin Serum by Natural Pacific. The post box smelt so strongly of citrus I thought one of the products must of broken in transit, but it hadn’t. The Fresh Herb Serum had such a strong (but amazingly pleasant) smell that it had infused the post box, so much so that even the mailman had commented on it.

The Wonder Essence was so beautiful packaged. So simple and aesthetically pleasing. The product itself was light, with not much smell, and went on super smooth. Then it was time for the Serum. Before I ordered I read reviews, and it was mentioned a couple of times that this was a “scream serum” i.e. it stings. So I was weary, but still excited to use it. I followed the instructions and applied it to my face. There was no sting. I had got off… until… of dear, the skin around my hair line started to tingle, the red drier patch on my cheek started to tingle. There was the sting. It wasn’t overly unpleasant, yes it did sting, but wasn’t painful. The idea of this serum is that if it stings it means your skin is damaged, and the more you use it, the less it will skin. I have been using this product for 3 days, and have already noticed the sting is lessening.

I’m hoping to add a few more steps to my routine in the next couple of weeks, but I have found it a little hard to find the products I want in Australia. I have found a few wonderful online retailers that have a few products, but of course they don’t have everything. I don’t think it’s possible for one store to have EVERY Korean skincare product thats available.

I plan on reviewing the products mentioned in this post individually in the future, so please stay tuned. The links in this post are to the stores I purchased these products from.

Do you have a skincare routine? What are your favourite products?
